Life Really Boils Down to Two Questions...

Should I get a dog...?
Or should I have children...?

I received this forward earlier today and thought it was too cute not to post. Personally I'd take the dog, but you can't blame the kids for what transpired here. How did they get the paint? How did they get the paint can open? Hmmmm....

Sleepy Charlie!

This morning, I found my little man sleeping in one of my old t-shirts I put in his cage for him; normally he sleeps in a little box I have set up for him (it makes him feel safe and secure). So I took it upon myself to wake him up! :) He was too cute not to, but he was happy as always to see me. He squeaked a few "good mornings" and then snuggled up for some TLC. He just loves a good rub on the face, especially on and around his ears. And yes, like I said before, count on plenty more Charlie posts on the blog. I just love the little rodent soooo much! It's good to have another "man" in the house, too.

Homemade Cheesecake

How's this for tantalizing your tastebuds?!? hee hee Arthur was craving some cheesecake last night, so we made a deal. Arthur went to the store to get the ingredients, while I baked it. It was really tasty with just a hint of lemon, yummmmm. Of course, I didn't think to take a picture of the cheesecake before we started eating it; not like it was refrigerating for hours or anything...

And of course, how can I not post another video of my sweet Charlie! Get ready for a prairie dog overload these next few months, lol. And yes, his name is official- Charlie it is! This video didn't catch all of his excitement this morning, however. As we awoke and came out of the bedroom, he saw us and went crazy. He started sqeaking and throwing his head back (saying hello to us in the sweetest way). I'll be honest, I woke up a little earlier just to spend some quality time with my boy. He craves the attention; I can't wait until he's a bit older to let him free around the apartment. Until then, I've let him out in the restroom, as it's the only place I feel is safe for him now. This morning he was so adorable- he first started squeaking out of excitement for being out of the cage, then after some exploring, he just plopped himself out across my hand and fell asleep. He's changed sooooo much in just two days, I love this guy already.

Good Morning, Charlie!!!!

Videos

Just to clear up a few things I've been asked a couple of times and for those of you who may be wondering. In 2003, the US (FDA & CDC) banned all sales of prairie dogs due to the spread of monkey pox believed to have stemmed from a prairie dog in Wisconsin. Eventually, it was found out that the source of the outbreak came from an imported Gambian Pouched Rat, yet prairie dogs still remained unfairly on the banned list for years. On September 8, 2008, the FDA and CDC finally has rescinded the ban of prairie dogs. So yes, they are now legal, but some states do have restrictions. To view the FDA's federal register (vol. 73, No. 174) click here. So yay for everyone who's ever wanted a prairie dog and couldn't have one in the past. But of course, always check your state and local laws before purchasing one for yourself. :)

My new pet, a prairie dog!

He's just a pup at six weeks of age, but look at how he's already giving me the stink eye, lol. So far, he's already adjusting to me and the new surroundings. He really wants to explore the apartment, he's been begging me to let him out. He keep crawling into my hands hoping I'll take him outta there. I do, but I don't put him down like he wants; he's already a little character. And he's quite the climber too; he thinks he can fly, I'm worried he's going to hurt himself. Good thing the cage isn't too too tall. :) I have yet to decide on a name for him, maybe by tomorrow I'll have one that fits. So far I'm liking Digger and Charlie, but who knows what I'll decide on. I was just joking to my mom that maybe I should give him a name from Twilight, since I'm such a fan. Jasper, Emmett, Carlisle, Caius perhaps????

Look at that little climber, go doggie go!

I thought I'd get one with me holding the lil fella; you can see how big he really is here. I can already tell that he likes to have the back of his ears scratched. So cute!!!
P.S. If you didn't already notice, I added a poll to my sidebar to help me choose a perfect name for him.

I don't wanna smell good!

Okay, so I thought I'd post this little video of Maya trying to get her stink on. Yes, I just gave her a bath, so naturally, she wants to get stinky again. Why can't dogs just appreciate the fact that we're trying to help them out?!?

Here she is (after the stink roll) all prettied up!
I guess she blinked, but isn't her dress so cute?!? ;)
And I couldn't leave out Chloe bear. She wanted in on the picture taking, too. Tomorrow she's getting her teeth cleaned; I'm so excited, no more bad breath for Chloe! Yay!!! Maybe I'll take pictures of her pearly whites tomorrow, or maybe not. :P
**Update: I just dropped off Chloe at the vet for her cleaning, and feel so guilty. Well, maybe guilty isn't the right word I'm looking for, but I wonder what she's thinking. She was shaking so badly when we got there, she hates the vet, but what dog doesn't?!? Is she thinking I left her for good and never coming back? Sometimes I wonder what dogs would tell us if the could speak. My poor Chloe, I feel for her right now. I can't wait to pick her up later today; I hope the vet takes extra special care of my sweet girl.

Susan Boyle

I saw this on Yahoo! and just had to post it on my blog. This is one of those feel good videos that just about bring tears to your eyes. She reminds me of Paul Potts, from another season of Britain's Got Talent. She is not what you'd expect her to be, she's truly marvelous. It also helps that she happens to sing one of my favorite songs from Les Miserables. Enjoy!
Boyle's Got Talent
by Mike Krumboltz

"American Idol" isn't the only launching pad for aspiring singers. Across the pond, "Britain's Got Talent" scored a huge boost in the Buzz after an unassuming contestant gave an amazing performance.

Susan Boyle (remember that name) became a Web phenomenon after singing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables. The performance brought the audience to its feet and left the judges (including Simon Cowell) either speechless or in tears.

Before going on stage, Ms. Boyle admitted some self-deprecating facts about herself (she's never been kissed and lives alone with her cat, Pebbles). For those reasons and more, audiences were expecting the female William Hung. They were wrong.

Lookups on the sudden star posted huge gains. A no-name just the other day, Ms. Boyle quickly surged into our top 5,000 overall searches. Blogs and gossip rags went wild. The Mirror jumped on the story, reporting that while Ms. Boyle thought she "looked like a garage" on TV, she received a standing ovation when she showed up at her local church.

Other sources write that as a child, Ms. Boyle was the target of bullies because of a disability. But, with her newfound fame, she is getting the last laugh. In fact, she's already meeting with officials from Mr. Cowell's Sony BMG label. This may have been the first you've heard of her, but it certainly won't be the last. You can watch her performance below...

And here's another good one I found.

Day at the zoo, kinda

My friend Charlotte works at the FW Museum of Science and History, and her job is to take care of the animals there. Today I decided to join her at work, where I got to meet all of her furry and not-so furry friends. The one I wanted to meet the most was Mr. Boo, the resident raccoon. He was a lot bigger than I thought he'd be, in fact, he's monsterous! Yes, I went into his cage, but I refused to get too close, lol. He did sniff my leg for a while, but I was to intimidated to reach down and actually touch him. I left that to Charlotte. :)

Her and Boo are best buds!
I did make friends with a couple of the ferrets there, however. They were both very sweet!

This guy (I'm not too sure what type of owl he is) is so cute. I was warned not to mess with him, he's not very nice. He's hungry and waiting for his food.
We thought he was dead, turned out he wasn't, at least not yet anyways. I imagine he'll be dead soon. Poor Mr. Tarantula...
Mr. Boo acting out a scene from James Bond. What skill!

This is Jet lag. He doesn't need a cage, so he has free roam of the facilities. I was so afraid I was going to step on him, lol. He even has his own license plate, suweet!
And last but certainly not least, here is Thelma the prairie dog. She's so funny! She can scale her cage like no one's business. The noise she makes is pretty funny, and she's definitely a people person. I had a lot of fun today visiting with my buddy and her "co-workers". Of course, I didn't take pictures of all of the animals; there were many more: rabbits, guinea pigs, oppossum, snakes, barn owl, turtles, rats and mice, alligator, sugar glider and a hedgehog. Thanks Charlotte for inviting me over, I'm glad I got to meet them. :)

Happy Easter!

I want to wish everyone a wonderful Easter this coming Sunday, as I probably won't be blogging that day. Arthur is going out of town so I'll be flying solo this weekend. Me sad, but not too sad. Chloe and I are going to party it up! ;)
And I also thought I'd share some pictures of the Easter cake I just finished for another co-worker of mine. She is going out of town this weekend and wanted something special to bring; I thought it was so thoughtful of her to want one of my cakes. She has three grandchildren, and wanted three bunnies (sugar cookies I also made) on the cake (each with the name of a grandchild on them). I think it turned out pretty cute!

Have you seen this girl?

We recently had a member of the credit union that I work for bring in this little beauty. Apparently while he was out shopping that day, he'd received this in his change and not noticed it. I did get a good laugh out of it, but unfortunately, we were unable to exchange his dollar for a "good" one. As you can see, it is a real dollar bill; somehow they took Washington right out of the center and replaced it with this lovely lady. Hee hee

What a face! Yikes!!!

Blogging Friends Award

I received a sweet blogging award from my blogging buddy and friend, Lura. Thanks a bunch! I'm honored to have received this one more than once. :) I don't remember the rules as far as how many people to send it to, so I'll just wing it! Heck, how about I don't list names at all. If you're on my sidebar of friends, you're my blogging friend. Take the award if you'd like to, even if you've already received it already. Have a great day, y'all!!!
P.S. Some guy here at my work just asked me out. I'm so flattered; I guess this new nose of mine works miracles, lol.

Good News x 2

First of all let me start out by saying how relieved I am that Chloe is healthy. Earlier on this week, I noticed a small lump near her spine on the right-hand side of her body. We kept an eye on it this week, but nothing had changed so we made an appointment for the vet. We took her in this morning, and it turns out to be a harmless lipoma (basically a lump of fat). She was due for her annual checkup too, so we were able to kill two birds with one stone. Other than her teeth needing a serious cleaning, she's in great shape. The vet technician first thought she was much younger than she really is, Chloe was so flattered. That's right Chloe, you're still looking good. Here's my girl, and yes, she needs a bath soon. As for the hair in her face, we're in the process of growing the hair out around her eyes so that we're able to pull it all up out of the way. It hasn't grown out completely yet.

As I was going through the pictures, I found this one of Maya that I had taken of her not too long ago. I thought I would post it. She looks like she's trying to strike a pose, a very serious one, lol.And this was just to cute not to put up either. Her pillow was a Christmas gift from Santa Claus this past Christmas. Can you tell how much she loves it?!? Really, though, she does like the pillow; for some reason she felt the need to sleep beside the pillow this morning. Whatever floats your boat Chlo Chlo! Can anyone figure out where her face is?
Okay, and the second good thing I have to announce is that I have found a new job. Better pay, better opportunities, and I will definitely get more experience. I will still be working at a bank, just a different one. I start in two weeks, and I have to admit that I'm a little nervous. I guess you never really know what to expect, and I'm going to miss my co-workers so much (most of them anyhow). :) You know what's funny, is that each job I've worked at (for the most part), I've felt as though my co-workers have been a second family to me. I can't imagine leaving this family I have now, but yet, half of the people I once thought of in that way I now can't even remember their names. I've forgotten so much about them; does this mean I'll forget the "family" I have now? I sure hope not. I hope I never forget them.
